Your mission

Job description
  • Your mission at Climeworks is to operate, maintain, optimize, and document the DCS and control systems to ensure high availability and performance, targeting the production of over 32,000 tons of CO2 annually from 2025. Additionally, you will implement advanced control strategies and provide essential documentation in alignment with Climeworks’ vision and OKR philosophy to continually enhance process performance and support seamless and efficient plant operations.
  • You maintain a safe and compliant plant operation, ensuring full compliance with defined regulations and fostering a safety culture without compromises.
  • You prepare control system training material for the operations team and provide expert input into Control Philosophies, Risk Assessments, HAZOPs, and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • You implement advanced control strategies and provide necessary documentation in alignment with Climeworks’ vision and OKR philosophy to enhance process performance and support efficient plant operations.
  • You design, execute, and validate plant improvement projects, contributing to the identification of initiatives and the development of business cases, while following the change management system.
  • You ensure that projects are executed, and documentation is released in an agreed-upon, timely manner.
  • You report daily on key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Orca & Mammoth plants, including metrics such as alarms, safety system triggers, and process cycle time.
  • You implement and support measurable KPIs for commercial operation results, providing necessary control inputs to implement KPIs related to availability, performance, and recovery for plant support roles.
  • You maintain required processes and tools, ensuring they are in place and effectively used.
  • You ensure 100% traceability of CDR production documentation.
  • You pass all assigned new and re-certifications.
  • You support the plant operations team on a day-to-day basis with process knowledge to improve plant performance and safety, ensuring the quality of the plant operation and striving for zero incidents.
  • You own day-to-day troubleshooting and issue resolution of control system-related challenges.
  • You close out 8D investigations, whether in a support or lead role.

Your story

Requirements
  • You hold a B.Sc. or B.Eng. degree or equivalent in control/automation or a related discipline; an M.Sc. or M.Eng. degree is a plus.

  • You bring more than 6 years of work experience in plant commissioning or operation within the control engineering industry, with at least 3 years in operations and maintenance (O&M).
  • You have proven work experience in a scale-up and/or first-of-its-kind environment. Work experience in Iceland or other Nordic countries would be a plus.
  • You have proven Siemens T3000 expertise and possess supervisory control and data acquisition system expertise for monitoring and controlling processes. Advanced Process Control system design experience is also desirable.
  • You bring experience in designing and testing PID/motor control systems to optimize performance and plant stability. Additionally, you develop and adapt software for control systems to meet the specific needs of plant operations based on functional descriptions.
  • You have proficiency in troubleshooting communication protocols (Modbus/Profibus/Profinet) and provide troubleshooting services and ongoing support to production and maintenance teams to ensure smooth and efficient plant operations. Sensor and instrumentation knowledge would be beneficial.
  • You conduct root cause analysis to identify the underlying reasons for control system failures and develop effective solutions, and you are a proactive problem solver applying first principles and proven root cause analysis techniques. Circuit design and analysis experience would enhance your effectiveness.
  • You are proficient in documenting changes and updating relevant engineering documentation.
  • You share knowledge openly, communicate clearly, and collaborate effectively by bridging departments and expanding internal networks.
  • You are business fluent in English. Icelandic or German would be beneficial but is not required.
  • You are willing to travel up to 25%.
